# How do I add Fuel Surcharges in Fast-Weigh?

Due to rising fuel costs, many businesses are needing to add in Fuel Surcharges to their system. Fast-Weigh has the ability to add in additional surcharge rates that can be used to account for this.

### Surcharges

**Surcharges work very similarly to Material Rate/Unit Price, Freight Charge Rate, and Hauler Pay Rate. They cannot be applied as a percentage, only a flat dollar amount added up either By Unit or By Load.**

**If you need a percentage-based Fuel Surcharge, then that would be handled with Pricing Adjustments. This feature is part of an addon module, so if needed you would need to contact the Sales team. More information will be available at the end of the article.**

Surcharges in Fast-Weigh are handled very similarly to material rates/product pricing. They are applied on the product and handled via Pricing Templates or added on order via the individual products. This gives you flexibility on how to handle applying Surcharges so you can apply them to as a template to new orders automatically or to orders individually if you need them to be more modular.

### Surcharges and Billing Exports

If you do a Billing Export through Fast-Weigh to an integrated accounting software, the export may need to be adjusted to account for the addition of Surcharges so it can be added to the export file.

### Surcharges On Products and Pricing Templates

Adding surcharges to the product and your pricing templates is done in the Products and Pricing section of the portal.

**Navigate to Resources -> Products -> Products & Pricing**

In the Product Pricing tab, your product pricing list will show a "More" edit button if a product has a price assigned to it. This is where you can add the surcharge to your product on the pricing template. These can be set to Per Unit or Per Load according to your needs.

After applying the Surcharges here, they will automatically apply to new orders assigned to the matching Pricing Template you have them applied to. To apply these to existing orders, you would need to run an [Open Order Price Update](https://help.tacinsight.com/fast-weigh-knowledge-base/how-to-guides/how-to-update-pricing/bulk-updating-open-order-pricing) to do so in bulk.

### Surcharges On Orders Assigned to an Order Product

Just like in situations where you may have variable pricing for products set on an Order that differ from your Pricing Template, you can do this with Surcharges as well.

For existing order products, you can use the Edit button and add the Surcharge.\
For new order products, the Surcharge field will be available to add in the rate before saving the Product to the order.&#x20;

### Taxes on Surcharges

If you need to apply taxes on these Surcharges, this can be done using your Tax Code settings.

**Navigate to Resources -> Billing -> Tax Codes**

You can see the different tax rates applied to your various tax codes here, seperated out in columns. If you need to add in a Surcharge tax rate percentage, select the Edit button on the appropriate tax code and enter the percentage rate in decimal format. (i.e. 7.5% = 0.075)

Pricing Adjustments allow you to do percentage-based additional charges that get applied in a similar way as the above sections (either by using Product Pricing and Pricing Templates or by individual Order Products).&#x20;
